An Illustrated Guide to Emergency Solar

Trying to keep it simple.

An Illustrated Guide to Emergency Solar
Setting it all up

First Washington, then California... And now, states in the northeast are declaring emergencies ahead of a winter storm bringing record snowfall.

Climate disasters don't care about our holidays. So, although my family traveled a little this last week, I was still taking notes and thinking through the next chapter of the guide. Then I started working on them.

Solar power will save a lot of lives over the years to come, but I've also been learning just how dangerous it can be. So, I'm sharing pages with awareness that I'll be reviewing these in particular for safety. That said, I wanted to get these out because the companies that sell solar panels and generators tend to have big holiday sales at the end of the year, so it's a good time to acquire these items, especially since we don't know what tariffs and supply chain problems will do to the cost over time. I've got a few more pages to add. Then we're going to head into edible weeds and mushrooms. Once we've got those sections done, I'm going to pause and refine what we've got.

Now some good news:

Recently, the Alfred Kobacker and Elizabeth Trimbach Fund has made a major contribution to the guide. They've partnered with the National Geographic Society to fund programs related to nature and climate change. More and more people seem to be getting excited about the project.

A month ago, I thought I'd been defeated by wellness grifters and AI slop. Now it feels like I'm doing my most important work so far, and it's because people step up to support good work when they see it. I have no idea what the future holds beyond next year, but I know we'll have this guide. I'm not the kind of person who stands around gushing empty words of gratitude. I'm the kind of person who puts their head down and earns their keep. So, I hope these are useful. More on the way...

I'll be back with more pages soon. I'm also getting ready to start posting one regular article per week going forward. The guide has taken up a lot of time, and it feels like the most important thing to be doing now.

Stay safe out there,

Jessica
