Let Us Now Eat The Weeds

Let Us Now Eat The Weeds
Weed eaters

I've started working on the edible weed guide, another chapter that feels important to get done up front and sooner than later. I'm sharing what I've got so far. A couple of experts have already offered to help shape this up, but please feel free to offer any knowledge or insights you have. The finished version will discuss best practices of foraging and cultivating wild plants/weeds in more detail.

For now, this feels worth sharing.

It's truly amazing how many common weeds you can eat, and how many nutrients they contain. They're also quite resilient. I've focused on weeds for now, but I'll be adding more wild plants over the next week.

It's been a tough year, and the world seems to be grouping up into a few camps. There's the people who want to indulge in every scandal and every drama, shouting at each other online 24/7. Liberals attack progressives, and progressives attack each other, and it all makes for wonderful outrage theater. Then there's the people who want to talk about prepping and community while doing neither...

Then there's us, the ones who aren't wasting another day. I'm trying to stay in this third camp. Whenever I find myself drawn to the noise of the latest outrage, this guide brings me back to what matters.

Even though I do still get angry, even though I do still feel a need to express myself online, I've been cutting back. At this stage, it does a limited amount of good. It consumes limited time and energy.

On a related note, we recently found out that a data center is moving in, not far from us. So, the practical approach makes all the more sense. Time is of the essence. We're not battling a climate crisis by itself. We're battling the logics and systems that created the crisis, and those systems are going to keep making things harder.

So, let's get into the weeds...

We're starting to close in on the first 100 pages. Now feels like a good time to slow down and start refining the chapters we've got: rain harvesting, basic food gardening, basic foraging, solar power, and basic emergency preparedness.
